What You Learn

The Skin Esthetics Program length is 600 clock hours or 18 weeks (full-time, 35 hours per week). Students will be prepared with a combination of theory and hands-on-training focusing on the use of skin care products and highly specialized equipment together with personal one-on-one guidance. The program encompasses the study of principles and practice of skin care and hair removal, the application of cosmetics, and skin disorders. The curriculum is designed to meet North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology requirements for licensure and prepare graduates for success in the professional beauty industry.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

Perform a variety of facial and skin care treatments safely and effectively.
Conduct thorough skin analysis and recommend appropriate skincare regimens.
Understand the structure and function of the skin and related anatomy.
Apply infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures.
Demonstrate competency in hair removal and makeup techniques.
Understand basic product chemistry and ingredients.
Operate within ethical, legal, and professional standards.
The ability to pass the state licensing exam and begin entry-level employment in the field.

Career Opportunities

This program trains individuals for entry-level employment as a licensed skin esthetician. Estheticians are skincare specialists who provide services to enhance the health and appearance of the skin. They work in spas, salons, medical offices, and wellness centers performing facials, hair removal, makeup application, and advanced skincare treatments. The profession requires knowledge of skin science, hygiene practices, and client service, as well as attention to detail.

Individuals must be in reasonably good physical health. Employment opportunities require standing, bending, and lifting. The individual should also be in stable mental health with the ability to cope with stress, pressure, praise, and criticism. The individual must put the desires of the client ahead of his or her personal desires. It is a must to have a pleasing personality and healthy attitude. All the employment opportunities within the skin esthetics industry involve working with many different kinds of people, each with their own unique needs and problems.
